Meet Dr. Horner

Doctor Horner was raised primarily in Nebraska, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska, and went on to the University of Nebraska Medical Center – College of Dentistry, where he received his dental degree. His undergraduate dental school research in microsurgical nerve repair was presented at the national meeting of the American Dental Association, and he was awarded the oral and maxillofacial surgery externship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Because of his demonstrated motivation to pursue further study in surgery, he was awarded the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons Award at the conclusion of his senior year in dental school. He received his certificate in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery through Louisiana State University Medical Center School of Dentistry. This training included six-months (of reciprocity training) in Adelaide, South Australia where as a third year resident, he served as the “Chef de Clinique” (Chief Resident) at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and acquired significant exposure to European and British oral surgery techniques and philosophies, and oral cancer management. He served as Chief Resident in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at both Charity & Hotel Dieu Hospitals in New Orleans, and shortly thereafter joined Bay Center for Oral & Implant Surgery.

Dr Horner attained dental licensure in the states of Nebraska, Louisiana, and Florida, and is a member of the American Dental Association, Florida Dental Association, West Coast Dental Association, both Upper Pinellas and Pinellas County Dental Associations, American Society of Dental Anesthesiology, Florida Society of Dental Anesthesiology, Florida Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, Academy of Osseointegration, American Academy of Dental Sciences, Consultant – National Institute of Medicine, and Fellow of the American College of Dental Sciences. He became a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1993, and underwent the ABOMS Recertification (Certificate Maintenance) examination in both 2001 and 2011—with his present American Board Certificate maintained through the year 2023. He holds staff privileges at Largo Medical Center and West Bay Surgery Center. He maintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and has given numerous lectures for the Bay Center for Oral & Implant Surgery Study Club, St. Petersburg College Dental Hygiene classes, and other professional groups. He has been selected for inclusion to “Tampa Bay’s Top Dentists” annually since 2008.

Dr Horner is married to Shelley, and the proud father of his sons Christian and Cameron. He is a member of the Elks, and has served on the board of his church for many years in various capacities, and presently serving on the Board of Directors of Keswick Christian School. His hobbies include: being a father and practicing baseball and football with his sons, teaching the Mid-High Sunday School class, cheering on the Tampa Bay Rays and his beloved Nebraska Huskers, walking the beach, vacationing with his family, and of course, performing wisdom tooth and implant procedures!
